If you own a garage door, you’re already familiar with the basic frameworks of commercial, residential, and heavy-duty industrial garage doors. But what about the unseen and frequently forgotten bits and pieces that are also required to maintain top-notch condition? The following items are included in the repairs:

• Drums. These attach to both ends of the torsion spring bar and help keep your door balanced by keeping the wires taut and secure.
• Rollers. In the tracking, you can see either steel or nylon wheels. Grime and ball bearing seizing over time might cause your door to rattle and ricket when it is opened and closed.
• Seals. Not only do these provide a standard barrier against inclement weather entering your garage, but when properly fixed, they also protect the outer edge of your door and reduce energy loss.
• Retainers. Work side by side with the seals. Consider a retainer to be the large zipper sash on the garage door’s bottom that keeps the side seals in place.
• Shafts of tubes. The tube shaft holds the weight of two torsion units to maintain the 500 pounds of a residential garage door secured safely together with the torsion springs. If your garage door is operated by extension springs, however, you will not see a tube shaft.
